Mendix low-code application provides insight into hundreds of projects throughout the Netherlands
Bizzomate, an expert in software solutions for digitizing and optimising business processes, has developed an application for Glaspoort, a fibre-optic supplier that installs and manages fibre-optic networks. The application, based on Mendix low-code, shows the status of the hundreds of fibre optic projects the company is currently carrying out throughout the Netherlands. As a result, Glaspoort has more insight into hundreds of projects and can manage its partners more efficiently.
1.2 million new glass-fibre connections in five years
Pension fund ABP and telecom provider KPN are the driving forces behind Glaspoort, an initiative launched a year and a half ago aiming to make optical fibre available to everyone. So Glaspoort wants to achieve 1.2 million fibre-optic connections in the next 5 years in smaller municipalities, rural areas and industrial areas throughout the Netherlands.
The organization currently consists of 28 people managing fibre-optic projects in more than 200 locations in the Netherlands. Glaspoorts’ partners are installing the fibre-optic networks. To give the staff a better overview of the status, tasks and milestones of the projects, Bizzomate developed ‘Liberation’, an application based on Mendix low-code. The application, developed within eight weeks, is crucial for smoothly running projects and achieving objectives.
Liberation application centralizes data
The application acts as a single source of information where all data about the projects can be found and which can be accessed by all project management officers, controllers and production managers. A dashboard provides management with further insight into the status of all projects. In addition, a budget module shows whether projects stay within budget. In a short period of time, the application has become an important part of managing the daily activities of more than a thousand employees.
Martin Wanschers, COO at Glaspoort: “We teamed up with Bizzomate because of their long-standing expertise in digitizing business processes. The new application they have developed enables us to deal with our projects transparently and predictably. We are now much more in control towards our partners than a year and a half ago when this project started enabling us to manage projects and partners better and more efficiently. Therefore, this new application brings us considerably closer to our goal of achieving 1.2 million glass fibre connections within 5 years.”
Henry Kraaijenbos, partner at Bizzomate: “At Bizzomate, we’re not afraid to challenge our customers about the business value that an application should deliver. We’re convinced this ultimately results in better applications that are used frequently within the organisation. This also applies to the Mendix low-code application we’ve developed for Glaspoort. With this application, Glaspoort benefits from 24/7 insight into the status of projects, the duties and responsibilities of team members and timeframes and budgets. As a result, Glaspoort can manage its partners more efficiently and complete projects on time and within budget. And that is exactly the added value we want to offer customers with our applications.”
Access for external partners
The application is currently used on a daily basis by Glaspoort staff. In the future, Glaspoort also wants to give its partners access to the application providing them with further insight into the status of projects and what input is required. As a result, they can make timely adjustments to their planning enabling residents and entrepreneurs to be connected to Glaspoort’s sustainable glass fibre network even faster.
